CHIMEI Corporation has received the 2025 National Sustainable Development Awards in the “corporate” category, recognizing its leadership in sustainable transformation within Taiwan’s petrochemical industry. The award, established by the Executive Yuan’s National Council for Sustainable Development, honors organizations that demonstrate outstanding performance in promoting sustainability and supporting the nation’s long-term sustainable development goals.
As a first-time participant among 22 award-winning companies across high-tech, traditional manufacturing, finance, biotechnology, and retail sectors, CHIMEI was recognized for integrating ESG into its core business, advancing low-carbon transition, and promoting circular economy solutions.
CHIMEI continues to strengthen its sustainability foundation through international management systems such as ISO 37001, ISO 46001, SA 8000, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, ISO 20400, and ISO 27001.
Since initiating carbon inventory assessments in 2007, the company has reduced approximately 300,000 tons of carbon emissions by its 2021 base year—a 30% reduction. In 2023, Chimei’s science-based targets were validated by SBTi under the 1.5°C pathway: a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 25% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2030, with a net-zero goal set for 2050, underscoring a clear and actionable sustainability roadmap.
It has also deployed clean energy and resource efficiency measures, including a self-built gas turbine cogeneration plant and 22 MW of solar power capacity, as well as reclaimed water systems designed to supply up to 80% of water consumption at its Rende site.
Under its Ecologue® sustainable materials brand, CHIMEI is expanding solutions in PCR plastics, chemical recycling, and bio-based materials, and has been recognized globally through the R&D 100 Awards for its CO₂ capture and carbon-fixed PC technology. Beyond internal reduction, CHIMEI practices the “carbon handprint” concept, introducing low-carbon photoresist and recycled alignment film solutions while holding supplier workshops to promote decarbonization across the value chain.
The company further promotes social and cultural value through the CHIMEI Museum and CHIMEI Cultural Foundation, while fostering an inclusive, safe, and supportive workplace.
CHIMEI’s sustainability performance has also been acknowledged by major international rating platforms, including an EcoVadis Platinum Medal, a CDP Climate Change “A” rating, and Platinum certification from the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA). Guided by its “Clean & Green” vision and “A Step Up” spirit, CHIMEI will continue to collaborate with partners across the value chain to enhance its environmental, social, and governance performance and create long-term value for society.
