CHIMEI has been officially validated by Science Based Targets initiative in 2023, becoming the first petrochemical company in Taiwan to set targets that complies with the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C warming scenario. With 2021 as the base year, our short-term goal is to reduce carbon emissions by 42% by 2030, and our long-term goal is to achieve Net-Zero emissions by 2050, which means CHIMEI will continuously reduce carbon emissions by over 90% until 2050, and neutralize the remaining emissions.
NET ZERO
Enhancing energy efficiency, reducing raw material consumption, and accelerating the replacement of outdated equipment.
Using clean natural gas as the primary energy source, building solar power plants, negotiating offshore wind power procurement agreement, and assessing the feasibility of adopting hydrogen energy.
Utilizing carbon capture and utilization (CCU) technologies and promoting waste reduction and recycling.
Apart from effectively reducing our own carbon footprint, CHIMEI has also actively engaged in the international voluntary carbon offset market. In 2022, we joined Singapore’s "Climate Impact X (CIX)" and subsequently became a member of the Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange (TCX), distinguishing us as one of the few Taiwanese companies experienced in both local and global carbon offset markets. Currently, CHIMEI has acquired 20,000 tons of carbon credits, sourced from projects including forest conservation, water resources, and biogas power generation. These credits are widely utilized for offsetting carbon emissions from employee commutes, business trips, international exhibitions, CHIMEI’s “Family Day”, and other commercial activities where complete carbon avoidance is currently impractical. This demonstrates CHIMEI's steadfast commitment to aligning with the global trend towards carbon neutrality. At the same time, in 2018, CHIMEI obtained over 100,000 tons of carbon credits issued by the Ministry of Environment through the "Natural Gas Replacement for Heavy Oil in our PC Plant“ offset project, becoming the first private enterprise to do so. In 2024, we participated in the first transaction of the "Domestic Carbon Credit Trading Platform" of the Taiwan Carbon Exchange with this project, becoming the seller with the largest number of listings. In 2025, we obtained an additional 220,000 tons of carbon credits, totaling over 320,000 tons.
CHIMEI joined CIX in June 2022, becoming the first Taiwanese company to complete offsets on CIX.
Watch moreCHIMEI became the first batch members of TCX in December 2023, and we were the only Taiwan petrochemical corporate to participate. In October 2024, CHIMEI participated in the first batch of domestic carbon credit transactions, becoming the seller with the largest number of credits.
