On December 18, 2024, Zhenjiang CHIMEI successfully obtained the "Verification Statement for Achieving Carbon Neutrality in Participating in Chinaplas International Rubber and Plastics Exhibition" issued by DNV, one of the world's most authoritative carbon neutral certification bodies. This signifies that CHIMEI's participation in Chinaplas 2024 has fully achieved its "carbon neutrality" goal, fulfilling its commitment to "zero-carbon green exhibition." This is the first time CHIMEI Group has adopted the world's first carbon neutral quantification standard, ISO 14068-1:2023, for the carbon neutral certification of an exhibition, setting a precedent for carbon neutral exhibition activities within the Group.
As a crucial part of the Group, Zhenjiang CHIMEI has always proactively cooperated with the Group's carbon reduction targets and set its own 2050 net-zero emission policy. Therefore, from the initial planning stages of the Chinaplas 2024 in April this year, a dedicated "carbon neutral plan" was formulated for the event, and a public commitment to carbon neutrality was announced. From booth design and construction, material selection, transportation, to the accommodation and travel of exhibitors, the principles of green, low-carbon, and circular economy were adhered to. Through the four key areas of "circular use, recycling and reuse, green commuting, and use of recycled materials," carbon emissions were actively minimized to the greatest extent.
The exhibition's carbon verification work encompassed nine reports and statements, verifying nearly 1,600 data sources and undergoing two stages: "carbon footprint assessment" and "carbon neutral certification." In the first stage, following the ISO 14067:2018 standard, carbon footprint data for the entire process before, during, and after the exhibition were summarized. The second stage, adhering to the latest international standard ISO 14068-1:2023, verified the remaining carbon emissions of the event at 70.9 tCO2e, which were ultimately offset through carbon credit projects held by the parent company, CHIMEI Corporation. The carbon credits used in this project came from a community water well project in Eritrea, a developing country in Africa, which reduces carbon emissions by repairing local damaged water wells and decreasing the burning of firewood.
This carbon neutral certification, as CHIMEI Group's first carbon neutral event project, marks a new milestone in the company's carbon reduction journey. In response to global climate change, we will continue to promote the concept of sustainable development, internalize carbon reduction actions into social influence and corporate competitiveness, and make more positive contributions to the company's green and low-carbon transformation and development.
