CHIMEI joins forces with the Chianan Management Office, Irrigation Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, to organize the "Chianan Irrigation Channel Greenway Planting and Maintenance Program" today. CHIMEI sponsors tree planting and maintenance activities around the adopted channel. It is estimated that the total distance of tree planting in the first phase will be 1.1 kilometers, and more than 500 trees will be planted in the future over a period of five years. The tree to be planted for this activity is Pistacia chinensis. In addition to the surrounding environment being suitable for its growth, Pistacia chinensis is also known as "楷木" because of its straight trunk, hard and reliable wood texture, and the connotation of integrity since ancient times, which coincides with CHIMEI Group's long-held philosophy of honesty and integrity, and this section of the road will be named "CHIMEI 楷木Green Corridor".
CHIMEI responded to the government's green energy policy by converting an idle factory site in Shanhua into a solar power plant in 2018, turning it into the "CHIMEI Green Energy Park" with an annual power generation capacity of over 20 million kWh. The park adheres to the concept of “symbiosis of trees and electricity", preserving more than 20,000 trees in the park to the maximum extent possible while building the power plant. Starting from 2021, CHIMEI collaborates with Pingtung University of Science and Technology to create a more ecologically friendly habitat through ecological surveys and ecological conservation measures in the park. CHIMEI's participation in the Irrigation Agency's tree-planting program is to promote the park’s concept of tree protection to the public.
The Chianan Irrigation Channel where this tree-planting section located was constructed in 1930 by Japanese engineer Yoichi Hatta, and was the largest irrigation system in Asia at the time, with abundant water nourishing the land and people of the Chianan Plain for a long time. Mr. Shi Wen-long, the founder of CHIMEI Group, honored the contributions of engineer Yoichi Hatta to Taiwan by personally sculpting a bronze statue of him. In order to pass on Mr. Shi Wen-long's sustainable spirit of loving one’s hometown and land, CHIMEI has combined this tree-planting activity with the education and training program for new employees, hoping that through the planting of trees by each new recruit, we can create a new look for the channel and leave a better environment for the next generation, thus fulfilling CHIMEI's sustainable vision of "Clean & Green".
