CHIMEI Corporation received an "A-" leadership rating from CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project) on climate change for the third consecutive year; CHIMEI participated in the 2023 CDP water security questionnaire for the first time and also received an "A-" rating, ranked among the top 7% of the global plastics manufacturing industry, highlighting the international recognition of CHIMEI's performance in greenhouse gas reduction and water resource management.
Climate change and water are two of the most pressing challenges facing the world today, and CHIMEI Corporation's continuous efforts to contribute to environmental sustainability through practical actions have made it stand out among the 21,000 companies assessed by CDP 2023. In terms of carbon reduction, CHIMEI has received the CDP "A-" leadership distinction three times since 2021 and was certified under SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) in 2023. In terms of water resource management, CHIMEI participated in the CDP Water Security Disclosure Project for the first time in 2023, and received leadership rating scores of A/A- in 9 out of a total of 11 categories scored by CDP, much higher than the industry average of C rating. In order to reduce the environmental impact, CHIMEI has set its own water discharge standards that far exceed the regulatory requirements. In accordance with the requirements and guidelines of ISO 14046 related to water footprint assessment of organizations, it completed an assessment of the water footprint at the organizational level in 2023, and the results of the analysis showed that the water resources in the watershed where the Tainan Plant is located are at "low risk". CHIMEI expects that 80% of the company's industrial water will be reclaimed water by 2025 (a reduction of 3.63 million tons of tap water per year), and has set the long-term goal of using 100% reclaimed water for industrial use.
The CDP assessment results have strengthened CHIMEI's commitment to the "Clean & Green" vision. Starting from this year (2024), CHIMEI will expand the implementation of internal carbon and water pricing, continue to actively invest in process improvement and energy transformation, and promote the use of sustainable materials. CHIMEI is also committed to working hand-in-hand with suppliers, customers, and all stakeholders toward the goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
