CHIMEI Conforms with ISO 20400 Sustainable Procurement-Guidance
2022.01.14

In response to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), CHIMEI Corporation has actively strengthened its corporate sustainability management across the board. Recently, the company’s compliance with ISO 20400:2017 Sustainable Procurement-Guidance has been inspected and approved by the British Standards Institution (BSI), making it the first petrochemical company in Taiwan to do so. Working under the ISO 20400:2017 Sustainable Procurement-Guidance framework, CHIMEI will cooperate with supply chain partners to implement sustainable procurement policies and practices, developing a supply chain that is competitive across all three major ESG factors (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance).

ISO 20400:2017 Sustainable Procurement-Guidance was established in 2017. It is the world's first Standard for sustainable procurement. As outlined in the guidelines, sustainable procurement consists of seven core subjects, including organizational governance, human rights, labor practices, the environment, fair operating practices, consumer issues, and community involvement and development. CHIMEI began preparations for incorporating ISO 20400 in May 2021. After extensive examination of the procurement process and procurement risks and opportunities, the company began to gradually formulate documents such as the sustainable procurement management manual, sustainable procurement policy, and supplier code of conduct. CHIMEI also established a related management process. After eight months of hard work, the company passed the inspection by the BSI in December 2021. This means that after incorporating the guidelines, CHIMEI’s procurement management personnel and suppliers will be able to smoothly introduce more comprehensive sustainable management mechanisms into their existing business operations, creating long-term sustainable value together. Amongst these, CHIMEI has already set forth concrete measures for sustainable procurement in terms of “the environment,” working toward the development of “green shipping,” “green packaging materials,” “green home appliances,” and “green raw materials.”

CHIMEI will continue to keep pace with the international community by incorporating each aspect of the sustainable management standards and relentlessly strive to be “A Step Up” amidst an ever-changing environment. By implementing sustainable development through concrete actions, CHIMEI and its partners, affiliates, and employees will further contribute to society and the environment.
