Since 2021, CHIMEI Corporation has partnered with Associate Professor I-Ling Lai's team from the Graduate Institute of Bioresources at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) to conduct ecological surveys of flora, fauna, and soil at the CHIMEI Green Energy Park, Taiwan's pioneering tree-solar symbiotic power plant. To date, more than 300 species of animals and plants have been documented. Today (Oct. 16th), a research presentation event was held at the Administrative Building of NPUST, featuring the first public screening of the year-long ecology documentary Gifts of the Sun. This film not only showcases the astounding biodiversity of the CHIMEI Green Energy Park but also marks a significant milestone in CHIMEI's commitment to sustainable development.
CHIMEI Green Energy Park is a tangible manifestation of CHIMEI's vision for achieving a harmonious balance between industrial and ecological development. Nearly two-thirds of the park's area is dedicated to natural ecosystems, making it an ideal location for long-term monitoring of natural ecological changes and the planning of related conservation efforts. In collaboration with NPUST, CHIMEI conducted a comprehensive survey covering the biodiversity of flora and fauna, as well as soil properties.
The survey results have been truly remarkable. Since 2021, we have recorded over 300 species of animals and plants in the park. The soils in both the forested areas and the photovoltaic panel areas maintain a near-natural state, free from heavy metal contamination. Associate Professor I-Ling Lai, who led the project, affirmed that "CHIMEI Green Energy Park serves as a sanctuary for wild flora and fauna in a highly developed plain region."
Gifts of the Sun is a documentary that masterfully illustrates the results of a year-long on-site investigation. This film immerses viewers deep into the CHIMEI Green Energy Park, following the NPUST research team as they explore the park’s diverse ecological landscapes across various times and seasons. It captures precious moments featuring Taiwan's endangered Stejneger's paddy frogs (Micryletta steinegeri), crested serpent eagles (Spilornis cheela), black-winged kites (Elanus caeruleus), Taiwan fireflies (Pyrocoelia analis), and other unique species. The documentary also highlights proactive habitat conservation efforts, demonstrating the harmonious coexistence between green energy production and environmental preservation.
Denis Chen, Vice President of CHIMEI Corporation expressed, "CHIMEI Green Energy Park, as a gift of the sun, not only provides us with sustainable energy but also coexists harmoniously with biodiversity. We are extremely proud of the results of this ecological survey. This collaboration has provided us with valuable evidence that demonstrates the feasibility of the sustainable development we pursue at CHIMEI Green Energy Park. We look forward to sharing these achievements with the public, inspiring more people to actively engage in biodiversity conservation, and continuing our partnership with NPUST to promote ecological sustainability."
We cordially invite you to watch Gifts of the Sun and witness this captivating story about biodiversity and sustainable development. CHIMEI upholds the "Clean & Green" vision, consistently focusing on environmental sustainability issues. We remain committed to taking concrete actions for the sake of future generations and creating a better environment.
