CHIMEI Corporation Undergoes Rebranding for Its 60th Anniversary and Obtains Assurance for First CSR Report
2020.12.22

Celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2020, CHIMEI Corporation strives towards its anniversary commitment of rebranding the company and issued its first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report this year while successfully obtaining third-party assurance. The certificate award ceremony took place on November 18, with CHIMEI Corporation vice president Yao-Ching Wang accepting the certificate on behalf of the company. Peter Pu, managing director of BSI Northeast Asia, was also present to show his support and affirmed the company’s sincere commitment to bringing Xingfu—well-being through contribution—to the world.

As CHIMEI Corporation enters its 60th year, the company has chosen to celebrate this milestone year by publishing a CSR report prepared in accordance with the GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards and the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition to its pledge towards bringing Xingfu to society, the company upholds the spirit of “A Step Up” by reshaping the company’s brand for its 60th anniversary. CHIMEI Corporation vice president Yao-Ching Wang stressed that the company’s rebranding is more than just brand transformation. By redefining Xingfu, the company will further build upon its existing foundation.

CHIMEI pooled the group’s resources into the publication of CHIMEI Corporation’s first CSR report this year. Wayne Lin, manager of the company’s General Plastics Department, noted that the company has actually always committed itself to fulfilling its ESG responsibilities and has focused on resource recycling and seeking a harmonious relationship with the environment, but never had the opportunity to produce an integrated report on those accomplishments. This year, through the implementation of EcoVadis’ Supply Chain Sustainability Assessments and the preparation of the CSR report, CHIMEI has presented a comprehensive look at the company’s corporate culture of harmony with people, society, and the environment.

Peter Pu mentioned that few corporate CSR reports stray from the rigid format of policy announcement, but CHIMEI’s commitment to fulfilling its corporate social responsibility is genuine and has made him look forward to seeing the company bring a positive impact to society through its ability to make continued improvements and advancements in its corporate social responsibility.

CHIMEI consulted Leadership Consult for the preparation of its CSR report and obtained Type 1 and Moderate Assurances from BSI, effectively affirming CHIMEI’s ESG performance. For the environmental aspect, CHIMEI invested NT$6 billion into the establishment of the Green Investment Project, which implements four major climate change countermeasures: a solar power plant, a heat and power station, an electrodialysis reversal (EDR) water recycling system, and a resource recycling furnace. The company’s achievements in the social aspect include receiving multiple international certifications in regard to its implementation of measures to ensure the labor rights and occupational health and safety of its employees and contractors. The company also founded CHIMEI Hospital and CHIMEI Museum, with the former providing health care services and the latter preserving precious cultural legacies for generations to come. As for the financial aspect, CHIMEI Corporation has been consecutively listed on the Taiwan Business Group Top 50 for the past twenty years. CHIMEI is committed to using real actions to fulfill its corporate culture of social responsibility towards its employees, clients, and society, and will continue to strive toward its goal of creating a sustainable world of Xingfu.
