CHIMEI Corporation and E.SUN Bank signed a three-year, NT$2 billion sustainability-linked loan agreement on November 4 at CHIMEI’s Green Energy Park. The agreement ties financing terms to three key performance indicators (KPIs) covering manufacturing, product certification, and market development. As part of the initiative, CHIMEI aims to quadruple the cumulative sales volume of its ISCC PLUS-certified products in 2026–2028 compared with the preceding three-year period, reinforcing its commitment to measurable progress in the circular economy.
Driving Sustainability Across Manufacturing, Products, and Markets
The agreement focuses on three areas. In manufacturing, CHIMEI will maintain a 99% waste recycling and reuse rate to improve resource efficiency. For products, the company will maintain ISCC PLUS certification across its plastics and rubber portfolio to strengthen supply chain traceability. In the market, sales of ISCC PLUS-certified products will serve as a measure of progress toward broader commercial adoption.
Helping Customers Meet Sustainability Goals with Comprehensive Material Solutions
CHIMEI’s Ecologue® portfolio offers sustainable material solutions, including mechanically and chemically recycled materials derived from plastic waste, as well as plastics and rubber products with certified bio-circular or circular sustainability attributes allocated under the internationally recognized ISCC PLUS mass balance system.
For sustainable materials to gain wider market acceptance, they must deliver more than environmental benefits. Performance, consistent quality, and reliable supply are equally essential. By combining materials expertise, quality management, and supply chain capabilities, Ecologue® helps global brands and manufacturers identify suitable materials that meet their design, performance, and sustainability requirements, supporting their adoption in commercial production.
Building on a Longstanding Sustainable Finance Partnership
CHIMEI and E.SUN Bank have collaborated on sustainable finance initiatives since 2018, starting with a green bond issuance. In 2022, they incorporated carbon reduction performance into loan interest rate assessments, followed by an ESG asset-linked loan in 2024.
The latest agreement also aligns with Taiwan’s amendments to the Waste Disposal Act and Resource Circulation Promotion Act. Combining E.SUN Bank’s sustainable financing expertise with CHIMEI’s materials and manufacturing capabilities, the collaboration extends sustainability performance targets from resource management to market adoption, supporting the broader use of sustainable materials.
