CHIMEI Corporation is proud to announce its recent achievement of the ISO 46001 Water Efficiency Management System certification, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to enhancing water usage efficiency and resilience. This accomplishment not only addresses the global challenge of water scarcity but also underscores CHIMEI’s dedication to sustainable development.
Under the framework of this international standard, CHIMEI will ensure its water resource management focuses on the three core strategies of “reducing water intake, increasing reuse, and substituting water usage”. This approach goes beyond traditional water-saving measures, aiming to elevate the maturity of corporate water governance and promote long-term sustainability.
According to the Global Risks Report published by the World Economic Forum, natural resource shortages rank among the most critical risks over the next decade, highlighting the urgent need for robust water management practices. In 2023, CHIMEI participated in the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) Water Security assessment for the first time, earning an impressive A- rating—demonstrating a solid foundation in water stewardship.
Beginning in May 2024, CHIMEI initiated the implementation of ISO 46001 across its facilities, driven by a top-down governance culture and bottom-up employee engagement. With this certification, CHIMEI ensures the establishment of a comprehensive water management system through systematic, data-driven, and continuously improving practices.
CHIMEI has actively promoted water recycling and reuse through both internal and external reclaimed water sources. As of March this year, CHIMEI achieved an 80% substitution rate with reclaimed water, reducing annual tap water consumption by approximately 3.63 million metric tons—equivalent to the yearly water usage of around 35,000 people.
Looking ahead, CHIMEI will continue to prioritize water resource management by adhering to the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle, conducting regular reviews and evaluations to improve efficiency and minimize environmental impact. The company’s long-term goal is to achieve 100% reclaimed water usage for industrial purposes, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to sustainable water governance through concrete actions.
